TOURS

Brussels ... the home of the ‘Brussels sprout’ ... has today over a million inhabitants spread over an area of 160 km² and 19 different municipalities. Diverse, multilingual and cosmopolitan. Brussels has become the capital of Belgium, it is the political capital of the European Union and the location of the headquarters of NATO.

My tours are as diverse as Brussels itself and while they are certainly not set in stone, here are some of the more popular routes ...

The Centre

The beautiful Grand-Place with its Gothic town hall and Baroque guild houses, the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert with their tempting chocolate shops and, of course, that most famous of Brussels landmark: Manneken Pis. There is also the Bourse building and Boulevard Anspach, where a river, the Zenne, once flowed, as well as the Mont des Arts, offering stunning views over the city.

Laeken

The Heysel Plateau was the site of two universal exhibitions in 1935 and again in 1958. Admire the Brussels Expohalls and the impressive Atomium from close-up. We pass by the Château de Laeken and also visit the beautiful Jardins du Fleuriste. The tour concludes at the fascinating Laeken Cemetery, the final resting place of a number of famous Belgians from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The European Quarter

Brussels has always been a crossroads in Europe. In the 20th century, it became the political heart of the European Union. Many EU institutions are located here: the European Commission, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament (admission subject to reservation), as is the Cinquantenaire Park with its imposing arcade. In this part of the city, you will also find a stylish selection of Art Nouveau architectural masterpieces.

The Marolles

The Marolles, a working-class neighbourhood was marked over the years by social protest. In the 1930s, the Marolles also became a refuge for thousands of Jewish refugees. Today, the Marolles are more connected with antique shops and galleries, a large flea market and even street art. We explore the unique character of this neighbourhood and its rich history.

ABOUT ME

Based in Brussels since 2006, my professional background is in IT. In 2022, I decided to come out from behind the computer screen to train as a tour guide. I finished my course in 2024 and I now hold a tour guide badge from Flanders Tourism.

I see myself as an all-rounder but my main interests are history and architecture, and if you are looking for a green oasis in the city, I can be of assistance there too.

They say that 'a picture is worth a thousand words.' I believe that facts and figures are more relevant when explained in the context of your surroundings and what you are seeing in the present moment. That is why I try to make my tours as informative and engaging as possible by incorporating plenty of visual references.

The city’s past has made Brussels what it is today: a multicultural society. There’s something here for everyone. So, let me show you my Brussels, and I will help you discover yours.
